Soloist, professor at the Conservatory of Gennevilliers, founding member of Ensemble 20° dans le noir & member of soundinitiative
Residing in France, Taiwanese flutist Shao-Wei Chou is actively involved in the performance of contemporary music, education, and the transversal, multidisciplinary art. A soloist and the co-founder of the trio 20º dans le noir, Shao-Wei joined ensemble Soundinitiative in 2019 as a flutist/performer, and has also collaborated with ensemble C barré on occasions. Her artistic activities are of an international scope while cultivating a tangible and purposeful confluence of her native and adopted countries.
Over the past ten years, Shao-Wei has been invited to present/perform at various festivals and events, such as Festival Présences, Musiques Démesurées (Clermont-Ferrand), Les Musiques (Marseille), l’Éstival de l’Abbaye de Maubuisson, Mixtur (Barcelona), Borealis (Bergen, Norway), and Taiwan International Festival. She has also presented at the Cité de la Musique de Paris, ZEF (National Theater of Marseille), Friche la Belle de Mai (Marseille), Fahrbereitschaft (Berlin), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) of UC-Berkeley, Stanford University, Villa Aurora (Los Angeles), and the Spectrum (New York). In addition, she has given lectures at California Institute of the Arts, National Chiao Tung University and Tainan National University of the Arts (Taiwan), as well as on various webinars. For the French radio station France Musique, she has participated in multiple recording projects on the Création mondiale (World Premiere) program hosted by Anne Montaron.
Shao-Wei’s performance can be heard in several CD albums, including cellist Lola Malique’s album Le meilleur lit and composer Colin Roche’s portrait album La fabrique, the latter being highly praised by Le Monde. She received support from the National Culture and Arts Foundation (Taiwan) and the MMC (Maison de la Musique Contemporaine, France) for her first solo album « ».
Shao-Wei has been teaching at the Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental de Gennevilliers since 2015. As a performing artist, she dedicates herself to the innovation of concert and performance format, aiming to abolish the distance between stage and the listening experience.
